SUPPORT FOR PARENTS AND CARERS

Reflective Parenting

A flexible, supportive course for parents and carers who want to better understand their child, strengthen their relationship, and feel more confident in their parenting.

Parenting can be joyful, frustrating, lonely and deeply emotional - often all at once, particularly when questioning if you’re doing enough.

We’re not taught how to be parents, so we often fall back on what we experienced ourselves, or on advice from books, articles or blogs. But every family is different, and what works in one home may not work in another. When those approaches stop helping, it can leave parents feeling disillusioned or powerless.

What is Reflective Parenting?

Many parenting courses focus on strategies and techniques, often with the aim of managing the child’s behaviour. While these can be helpful, Reflective Parenting takes a different approach.

It places the relationship between you and your child at the heart of the work. Sessions offer a calm space to think about your child’s experience, your own responses as a parent, and the relationship between you.

Reflective Parenting is rooted in the idea of mentalizing – the ability to think about what may be happening beneath behaviour, both in your child and in yourself.

Rather than asking, "How do I stop this behaviour?" we start to ask, "What might my child be communicating?" This shift often creates space for calmer, more connected responses.

Is this approach right for you?

Reflective Parenting may be a good fit for parents and carers experiencing:

  • Ongoing conflict or tension with your child

  • Challenges related to neurodiversity

  • The impact of separation, divorce, or family change

  • Difficulties with emotional regulation (your child’s or your own)

  • Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how best to respond

  • Recurring patterns that leave family life feeling difficult or disconnected

Reflective Parenting can help you face these challenges with greater confidence and explore new, more creative ways of responding.
